Bayou Rebirth’s Wetlands Education and Restoration Project seeks to educate New Orleans youth about the important roles of their local wetlands and provide them an opportunity to become a part of restoring these vital ecosystems. ![]()
During the first session the kids get an introduction to the problem at hand, they roll up their slee ves and get to work. The kids separate and pot native wetlands grasses and they build a pond to nurse the grasses so their plants will propagate.
The second and third sessions are field trips to local parks dedicated to learning how to test water quality and analyze habitat. The program culminates in a planting at a local marsh. During the fourth session students plant the grasses they have nursed all semester to help restore the marsh.
